Project Description

The project will create pan-Canadian Quality Assurance guidelines for the Recognition of Prior Learning that can serve to guide and enhance the assessment of immigrants through RPL across contexts, contribute to organizational effectiveness, and promote labour force development.

We will be informed by focus groups, networking opportunities, and stakeholder meetings to enhance stakeholders’ understanding of QA issues and good practice, disseminate findings, and share “lessons learned” as the project progresses. Multiple interactions with stakeholders will ensure far reaching engagement to support the reliable final resource, a manual that has validity in all communities across Canada.

In addition to degrees, certificates and diplomas, we need to have other reliable ways to assess the skills and competencies of newcomers to Canada, as well as Canadian-born workers, because they have a lot of experience that employers require. We are very excited about this project because it provides an opportunity to bring stakeholders together to develop standards that will help assessors in industry, the regulatory community and academic institutions, when they evaluate prior experiential learning. It will be a ‘win-win’ for the Canadian labour force and for citizens who have developed skills and abilities after years of working and living in their communities”.
