Don joined the CAPLA board in late 2023, but has a long history at the intersection of edtech and recognition. He is a longtime CAPLA member and has presented at several CAPLA conferences on topics related to eportfolios over the years. He's helped bring digital badges and micro-credentials onto the association radar since 2012. Don is also a former chair of MPLAN, the Manitoba PLA Network and his company Learning Agents was recognized with MPLAN's PEARL Award in 2013.
Don is a founding member of the international Open Recognition Alliance (ORA), co-author of the 2016 Bologna Open Recognition Declaration. He actively serves as an Open Recognition Ambassador, with an evidence-backed badge to prove it.
Today Don wears three hats, and works hard to make it clear which hat he is wearing when:
- Advocate for Open Badges as a flexible way to open up the recognition of skills and achievement since 2012.
- Consultant for organizations developing badge strategies and systems on various platforms since 2014.
- Service provider of the CanCred badging platform since 2017.
In general, Don loves to work with people with the vision and the enthusiasm to help build the wave of recognition that will raise all boats: Open. Up. Recognition!
